I’ve seen many parents ask in despair, “How else can a parent
train up her children?” I provide good education, all their basic needs, and
took them to church every Sunday. I made sure all they ever needed to live a
better life was provided. Why are my children becoming irresponsible?
Perhaps this is a question you have always longed for answers
to.
In my post, " the deadliest parenting mistake
parents must know" you will find answers to some of
these questions. However, in this article, I have outlined some of the vital and
biblical ways children can be raise.
This article involves an age-long but most neglected principle
that actually works. It is not man-made but divinely generated.
God has always been at the center of every man’s life even
though some don’t acknowledge it. Much more, when it comes to
child’s training, He also wants to be at the center of it, which is why
he reveals the principle of how parents can train their children.
Let’s try to understand this missing link in parenting in proverbs22:6,
Train up a child in a way that he should go: and when he is old,
he will not depart from it.
Embedded in this scripture are the most neglected laws in
parenting which are as follow;
1
1. As He
deems fit not as you deem fit
When God gave this law, he didn’t mean that parents should train
up their children as they deem fit, but rather that they should be trained as
He deems fit.
This fact is captured in the phrase “a way that he
should go.” It is not rocket science to know that only the
manufacturer of a product can decide the way the product should go. He alone
can decide how best users can operate the product to get the best out of it.
Therefore any attempt to bypass the manufacturer’s laws will result in
defection, chaos, and death. This is why the world is infamous for harboring
children with antisocial behaviors, mental deformity, and character
effectiveness.
2. The way of
purpose
Now, the big question is, “what is that way a
child should go?”
Aside the usually teachings of don’t tell lies, don’t hate, don’t insult or abuse any one, don’t steal, don’t fornicate and all that, another way
a child should go is in the way of his natural abilities, gifts or talents. This
is where parents are missing it.
No parent should ever neglect his or her children’s areas of
strength or natural abilities. Negligence of such areas is tantamount to the
burial of destiny, purpose and vision because that is their reason for living.
Most children’s talents or natural abilities are obvious in their
childhood stage while some become clearer and apparent as they grow up.
Parents therefore are saddled with the responsibility of
discovering these areas of natural abilities and strength and commit to nurture
them. To do this, critical observation is required which is where most parents
are lackadaisical. You don’t need a prophet to do this. God doesn’t hide the
destiny of children where you can’t find it. A little bit of observation, commitment
and attention will do all the magic.
As you do this, you’ll begin to discover that God’s method of
training up children is easy because you will begin to see how everything falls
in place naturally.
3. Vision
makes responsible and develops long-lasting characters
From a biblical standpoint, it is clear that people who are groomed
to capture a vision of their purpose are those who will eventually become
responsible in society.
See what proverbs 29:18 says.
Where there is no vision, the people perish: but he that keeps the
law, happy is he. Prov 29:18.
If there is no reason for living, people cast off restraint and
misbehaves. This is also true when children are not nurtured in the direction
of their abilities; they will grow up to pick up some negative attitudes which
may suffocate areas of their strengths and abilities.
As I bring this to a close, the two most important things I strongly suggest all parents should do for their children are;
- Before
they grow up thinking there is no reason for living, it
is better you help them discover their many
reasons for living.
- Before
the society exposes them to life’s negative ways, inundate their hearts,
minds and mentality with positive values.

A. There is a perfect way to raise children. Not
as you deem fit, not as anyone else deems fit but as God deems fit.
B. Using God's laws for parenting is Grace,
but using man's laws is disgrace. Choose wisely.
